The fun doesn’t end when the sun goes down in Lake George. From night hikes and stargazing to summer fireworks and Halloween haunts to sunset cruises and mini golf, nighttime in Lake George provides a whole new adventure.
Stargazing
Lake George is known for its low light pollution and dark night skies, making it great place to stargaze. The best vantage point is on the water, but you can also enjoy unobstructed views of the night sky on Million Dollar Beach. Additional stargazing spots include Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway and Sabbath Day Point Overlook.
Night Hiking
For the extra-adventurous, a night hike gets you even closer to the stars and can offer spectacular views of Lake George. Choose a hike with well-marked trails, like Prospect Mountain, Pilot Knob or Shelving Rock. Use headlamps or flashlights, make sure your phone is fully charged, and bring a map and compass or a GPS device.
Summer Fireworks & Concerts
Beachgoers enjoy Shepherd Park by day, but it’s also a hotspot for nighttime entertainment. Check out the fireworks display at 9:30pm on Thursdays, and enjoy live music in the park on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout July and August. Bring a blanket or chairs, pack a picnic, and make a night of it.
Ghost Tours & Fright Fest
For some spooky fun after dark, sign up for a Haunted History Ghost Tour at the Fort William Henry or purchase tickets to Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Escape. Ghost tours run every Friday and Saturday from April through October, and Six Flags Fright Fest is every Friday through Sunday from the end of September until the end of October.
Night Cruises
Both Lake George Steamboat Company and Lake George Waterfront Cruises offer several evening boat tours throughout the spring, summer and fall, including sunset cruises, dinner cruises and fireworks cruises. You can’t see as much as you would during the day, but the night sky from the water is something you don’t want to miss.
Bars & Clubs
Lake George has a vibrant nightlife scene, with several bars and clubs staying open well past midnight. Many establishments feature outdoor patios and decks with lake views, and provide bands and live music on the weekends, including Lake George Beach Club, Duffy’s Tavern and Christie’s on the Lake. You’ll also find a lively dancefloor at DJ’s Nite Club.
Mini Golf & Movies
For family-friendly fun after dark, Bolton Landing hosts free Movies in the Park on Wednesday nights during the summer at Rogers Memorial Park, and the Glen Drive-In movie theater in Queensbury offers a double-feature on two screens through the fall. Many of the mini-golf courses are also open in the evenings, including Around the World Golf, Goony Golf and Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf.
