Can't Miss Fall & Winter Events in Lake George
Lake George is a popular summer vacation destination, but it’s also an amazing place to visit year-round. After Labor Day, visitors are treated to a spectacular display of fall foliage followed by picture-perfect, snow-covered mountains, and plenty of fun fall and winter events in Lake George.
While it may be considered the “off-season,” Lake George still has lots to offer during the fall and winter months! Here, we’ll highlight some of the area’s most popular fall and winter festivals and events.
Lake George Village Oktoberfest & Fall Festival
The Lake George Village Oktoberfest & Fall Festival is a free, three-day event held over Columbus Day Weekend on Canada Street in Lake George Village. This year’s festival will be October 10-12, 2025. The area in front of Shepard Park is transformed into a Bavarian-style street fair, where guests of all ages can enjoy German music and dancing, carnival rides, crafts, local art, a beer garden, Bavarian food, and many other activities.
Adirondack Brewery Oktoberfest
The Adirondack Brewery Oktoberfest is a 21 and over event held at the Adirondack Pub & Brewery on Canada Street in Lake George. Tickets for 2025 include an unlimited sampling of beer, wine and cider, a complimentary food voucher for Bavarian food, a beer stein, games, costume contests and much more! This year’s event will take place from 12-5PM on Saturday, October 18.
Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Escape
On Saturdays and Sundays from September 27 through October 26, Six Flags Great Escape hosts its annual Fright Fest. Enjoy family-friendly Halloween fun during the day and frightful thrills after 5PM, including scary shows, haunted attractions, and roller coasters and rides that are even more terrifying at night. Fright Fest tickets can be purchased online or at the park and range from $29-$150 for 2025.
Lite Up the Village
After Thanksgiving each year, Shepard Park in Lake George Village is lit by thousands of lights to celebrate the holiday season. This free event will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2025 and is slated to include horse-drawn carriage rides, hot chocolate and live holiday music, a fireworks show over the lake and a Holiday Light Parade on Canada Street featuring Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Lake George Winter Carnival
The Lake George Winter Carnival is held in Lake George Village every weekend in February, and features activities for kids, pony rides, beach bonfires, the comical outhouse races and other games and contests, fireworks, polar plunges, and several cook-off contests for chowder, chili, BBQ and chicken wings. Many of the events and activities are free, however, pre-sale tickets are recommended for the cook-off events.
New Year’s Day Lake George Polar Plunge
Take part in a Lake George New Year’s tradition by attending – or participating in – the polar plunge at Shepard Park. This event takes place each year on January 1, with over 1,000 plungers participating! The first wave enters the water at 1pm and the cost to participate is $10.
