When the summer crowds have dwindled and the leaves begin to change, it’s the perfect time to plan a weekend getaway in Lake George. Whether you prefer fall hikes and pumpkin spice or ghost tours and Halloween haunts, you’ll find it all in Lake George.
Friday Evening
Check into to your cozy cabin at Adirondack Diamond Lodge, complete with a knotty pine interior, fireplace and rustic décor in a beautiful wooded setting. Then, take a short drive into Bolton Landing for dinner. Choose from several year-round restaurants, including Frederick’s Restaurant & Lounge, Cate’s Italian Garden and The Huddle Kitchen & Bar.
After dinner, head back to your cabin for campfire s’mores or a nightcap around the fire pit.
Saturday Morning
Start your day with a cup of coffee and Matt’s famous buttermilk pancakes from The Shack at Bolton Landing, or head south to the Lone Bull Pancake & Steakhouse, a Lake George breakfast staple for more than 50 years.
After breakfast, it’s time for some fresh mountain air and outdoor recreation. Play a round of 18-holes at Top of The World Golf, located at the top of French Mountain, or hike up Prospect Mountain for a great workout and spectacular views. Bike along the tree-lined Warren County Bikeway, go horseback riding at Mountain View Rocking B Ranch, or soar through the fall-colored forest canopy at Adirondack Extreme zipline and adventure course in Bolton Landing. Looking for something a bit more low-key? Take a scenic drive to the top of Prospect Mountain or hit up the Lake George Outlets for some great deals.
Saturday Afternoon
Depending on where you spend your morning, you’ll find a variety of great lunch spots in the area. The Garrison Restaurant is just down the road from Top of the World Golf, and the Adirondack Pub & Brewery is a short drive from Prospect Mountain. If you opted for the adventure course, you’ll find a number of lunch spots in Bolton Landing, and The Longhorn Restaurant & Pub is a great choice after horseback riding.
To round out your afternoon, head back to Adirondack Diamond Point Lodge to relax in the sauna, or challenge one another to a game of shuffleboard, ping pong or billiards in the Rec Center.
Saturday Evening
With a chill in the air, it’s time for some spooky fun, but first, make your way to Lake George Village for a bite to eat. The Lighthouse Grill and Lake George Beach Club are both open year-round and offer views of Lake George, while the Barnsider Smokehouse, just south of the Village, is known for its one-of-a-kind BBQ.
Close out your night with chills and thrills at Six Flags Great Escape Fright Fest or sign up for a Haunted History Tour at the Fort William Henry. Just make sure to buy your tickets online ahead of time, as the haunted tours sell out fast.
Sunday Morning
Wrap-up your fall getaway with a two-hour boat cruise around Lake George. The Lake George Steamboat Company offers a Champagne Brunch Buffet Cruise on the Lac Du Saint Sacrament steamboat every Sunday through the end of October from 12:00-2:00PM. Enjoy a breakfast and lunch buffet, paired with views of the surrounding Adirondack Mountains and fall foliage.
