Lite Up the Village

After Thanksgiving each year, Shepard Park in Lake George Village is lit by thousands of lights to celebrate the holiday season. This free event kicks off with a countdown to the lighting at at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024 with carriage rides, bounce houses, live music, and a Crazy Ugly Sweater Contest, followed by the official illumination of the lights, a spectacular fireworks display and a Holiday Light Parade on Canada Street. After the event, the lights remain lit every night through December 31.

Igloo Dining & Ice Bars

Dine under the stars at several local restaurants offering heated outdoor Igloo dining, including The Inn at Erlowest in Lake George and Park 26 in downtown Glens Falls. The Barrel restaurant in Bolton Landing even has a curling rink. For more winter adult fun, sip a hot toddy, craft beer or a seasonal cocktail at one of the outdoor ice bars hosted by Adirondack Pub & Brewery, the Fort William Henry Hotel & Conference Center and The Sagamore Resort.

Lake George Winter Carnival

The Lake George Winter Carnival runs every weekend in February, and includes activities for kids, beach bonfires, fireworks, polar plunges, and cook-off contests for chowder, chili, BBQ and chicken wings, as well as other contests and games, like the famous outhouse races and the glacier golf tournament. Check out the hot chocolate toppings bar and sign up for Paint & Sip Sundays.

Lake George Winter’s Dream

Starting in December and continuing through February, the Fort William Henry Historical Fortress hosts Lake George Winter’s Dream, a walk-through attraction featuring a series of immersive multimedia installations that will rekindle your love of the winter season. Inspired by the warmth and shared joys of the season, this rich wintry world offers the perfect setting for a unique outing with family and friends.

Skiing & Snowboarding

Just 45 minutes northwest of Lake George, Gore Mountain offers more terrain than any other ski area in New York State, featuring 108 trails, plenty of glades, a sweet terrain park, and 14 lifts, including an 8-passenger gondola. If you’re looking for something closer, West Mountain is only 15 minutes from Lake George and offers skiers and snowboarders more than 126 acres and 35 trails, as well as a terrain park, a tubing park, restaurant, bar and ski shop for rentals, tuning and more.
