If you’ve ever dreamed of spending the holidays surrounded by frozen lakes and snowy ski mountains, you’re going to love winter in the Lake George Region. The Village of Lake George and the surrounding communities make the season merry and bright with festive events, cold weather activities, and unique holiday traditions.

Lake George Holiday Festival of Lights

Every Christmas, Shepard Park in Lake George Village is lit by thousands of lights to celebrate the holiday season. The official illuminating of the lights takes place on the Saturday after Thanksgiving with a block party, carriage rides, a holiday parade and fireworks display, and the lights remain lit every night through December 31.

Breakfast with Santa

The Fort William Henry in Lake George hosts Breakfast with Santa on Saturdays between Thanksgiving in Christmas. Treat the little ones to a morning filled with joy and wonder, and enjoy a festive buffet breakfast, followed by a visit from Santa and cookie decorating. Carriage rides around Lake George Village are also available.

Holiday Performances

Join the “Snow Sisters”, along with Snow White and Sleeping Beauty for a live, interactive Holiday Princess Show at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George, or experience the timeless holiday classic, “The Nutcracker” ballet, and several other holiday performances at the Charles R. Wood Theater in downtown Glens Falls.

New Year’s Eve Activities

Attend a New Year’s Eve Party with lunch and dinner specials, live music, and a champagne toast at The Barrel Restaurant in Bolton Landing, or singalong with a high-energy dueling piano performance at the Fort William Henry in Lake George. You’ll also find comedy shows at the Park Theater and Charles R. Wood Theater in Glens Falls, and a Frostbite Cruise on the Adirondac luxury yacht on New Year’s Day.

Winter Fun in Lake George

With average snowfalls around 60 inches, Lake George is the perfect winter vacation destination for snow sports and recreation. From skiing and snow tubing to ice skating, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, you’ll find it all in the Lake George Region. Even without snow, you go for a winter hike, or hit the slopes at Gore Mountain in North Creek or West Mountain ski area in Queensbury.

Shopping & Dining

With fewer visitors than summer and fall, winter is a great time to enjoy all that Lake George has to offer without the waits, lines or crowds. Check out the local breweries and wineries, cozy up beside the fireplace for a bite to eat at one of the year-round restaurants, and shop for deals at the Lake George Outlets.
