If you prefer fewer crowds and milder temperatures, spring is the ideal time to visit Lake George. During the months of April, May and June, the Lake George Region emerges from the winter thaw and comes alive with whitewater rafting, hiking, biking, fishing, golf, and annual events. Hit the trails and golf courses, and enjoy the many local restaurants, breweries and wineries, without the crowds.
Whitewater Rafting
The rivers and rapids around Lake George are highest in spring, making it the perfect time for whitewater rafting. Rafting companies, including Wild Waters Outdoor Center, Adirondack Adventure Center and Sacandaga Outdoor Center, provide all the necessary gear and offer guided whitewater rafting trips on the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers.
Hiking
Whether you’re looking for family-friendly nature trails or moderate-to-difficult day hikes, you’ll find it all in the Lake George Region. Nearby hikes include Prospect Mountain in Lake George, and The Pinnacle, the Tongue Mountain Range Cat and Thomas Mountains in Bolton Landing. Just keep in mind that spring hiking can be muddy, so make sure to check trail conditions before heading out and wear the proper shoes.
Biking
Spring’s mild temperatures are perfect for biking along the scenic Warren County Bikeway. Easily accessible from Lake George’s Battlefield Park, this 9-mile long, paved bike path features signs with historical information about the area, as well as benches and a few picnic tables along the way. Take the path into downtown Glens Falls or stop for ice cream just off the path in Queensbury, NY.
Fishing
The pristine waters of Lake George are ideal for fishing, and trout fishing is popular this time of year, when the water temperatures are colder. Whether you choose to venture off on your own or hire a professional boat or fishing charter, you’re bound to enjoy a beautiful day on the lake. In addition to lake trout, Lake George is home to Northern pike, yellow perch, and largemouth and smallmouth bass, among others.
Golf
For a round of 18-holes and scenic views of the Adirondacks, check out our Lake George golf courses, including Top of the World Golf in Lake George and the Sagamore Golf Course in Bolton Landing.
